Amid continuing tariff concerns, Xiaobing Feng, Principal Commercial Officer at the US Embassy in India, reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthen cooperation with New Delhi in multiple sectors, particularly in the area of energy security.

Address at IACC Energy Summit

Speaking at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) 3rd Energy Summit in New Delhi, Feng underlined the deepening collaboration between India and the US in the energy sector. She recalled that during President Donald Trump’s visit in February 2025, he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described both nations as “leading producers and consumers in shaping local energy markets,” while pledging long-term cooperation in oil, gas, and civil nuclear energy.

Energy as Key to Growth

“Energy remains fundamental to the economic growth of both nations—India and the US—as we work to ensure that our energy resources can support innovation,” Feng said. She emphasized that policy reforms under the Trump administration, such as reducing excessive regulations and streamlining approvals, had restored America’s position as a global energy leader.

Facing Global Energy Challenges

Feng noted that the “global energy landscape is undergoing a profound transformation due to geopolitical instability and supply chain disruptions.” She highlighted that India and the US share a long history of collaboration in this field, covering both technical and economic cooperation.

Three Priority Areas for Collaboration

The official identified three critical areas for advancing the partnership:

  • Diversifying energy resources

  • Strengthening infrastructure resilience

  • Leveraging US expertise in natural gas, nuclear power, and emerging technologies

She also pointed out that American companies are eager to partner with Indian counterparts to design smart energy solutions that guarantee reliable supply.

Critical Minerals and Future Opportunities

Feng further stressed the importance of securing supply chains for critical minerals, which are in rising demand worldwide. “Both nations have an opportunity to lead in securing reliable and sustainable supply chains,” she remarked.

Platform for Cooperation

The IACC Energy Summit served as a platform to explore renewable energy, hydrocarbons, and civil nuclear cooperation, while also fostering bilateral trade and investment in the energy sector.
