AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal strongly condemned the fatal attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, describing it as a glaring example of the deteriorating law and order situation under BJP-led governments at both state and central levels. Highlighting systemic failures, Kejriwal criticized the BJP’s inability to ensure public safety, even for high-profile individuals, and called their governance a failure. He questioned the BJP’s capability to govern effectively, pointing to rising crime, rampant gangster activities, and increasing insecurity across the country.
Speaking to the media, Kejriwal shared details of the incident, stating that unidentified assailants broke into Saif Ali Khan’s home through a window and attacked him six times with knives. The actor is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. “We pray for his speedy recovery, but it is alarming that such a prominent actor, living in what should be a secure home, could be attacked in this manner. This raises serious concerns about the state and central governments’ ability to ensure security,” he said.
He also noted other high-profile incidents in Mumbai, such as the daylight murder of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui and the shootout involving Salman Khan. “If even celebrities and influential figures aren’t safe, and the BJP’s so-called double-engine government cannot provide them security, what hope does the common man have?” Kejriwal asked. Kejriwal further criticized reports of gangsters in Gujarat jails orchestrating extortion and shootouts without fear of reprisal. “Across the country, criminals are operating fearlessly, seemingly under the protection of those in power. This lawlessness shows how the BJP has completely failed to address crime,” he added.
He also slammed the BJP for failing to secure India’s borders. “They constantly raise alarms about Rohingyas crossing into the country, yet they admit they can’t stop them. If you can’t secure the borders, resign. Protecting borders is the primary responsibility of any government. If you’re unable to do so, step aside,” Kejriwal asserted. Addressing crime in Delhi, Kejriwal highlighted the prevalence of gang wars, extortion threats to traders, and rising cases of missing children and crimes against women. “Delhi streets are witnessing open gunfights. Traders live in fear due to extortion calls, and citizens—women and children—are unsafe. This BJP government has failed utterly in its duty to protect people,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Kejriwal condemned the attack on Saif Ali Khan in the strongest terms, urging the central government to prioritize public safety over political games. “Stop playing dirty politics and do the job you were elected to do. Your primary duty is to protect lives and deliver justice, but you’ve failed on both fronts. If celebrities are targeted, what hope does the common man have?” In response to media queries, Kejriwal pointed out that Delhi’s crime rate has quadrupled since 2013. “What is the government waiting for? Are they waiting for public pressure to act? Safety cannot be compromised. If Pakistan attacks tomorrow, will they wait for pressure then too? This government is asleep at the wheel, focused on politics rather than governance,” he said.
Commenting on the initial investigation into the attack, Kejriwal emphasized the need for safety above all else. “Whatever the reasons behind the attack, nothing justifies violence. Life is precious, and without safety, nothing else matters. A safe society is the foundation of everything,” he concluded.
