In the ongoing Monsoon Session today in Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a forceful address on the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor, confirming that three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack have been neutralized in a joint military mission Operation Mahadev, conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu & Kashmir Police.
The three slain terrorists—Sulaiman, Afghani, and Jibran—were identified as Pakistani nationals and members of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group. Shah said these were the very individuals responsible for the June 18 terror attack in Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, where innocent tourists, including newlyweds, were brutally gunned down.
‘I Will Answer What Happened in Pahalgam’
Opening his address with an emotional recollection of visiting the victims’ families immediately after the attack, Shah said, “I saw standing before me a woman who had been widowed just six days after her wedding. I can never forget that scene. I want to tell the House and the people of this country—those who sent the terrorists have already been neutralized, and yesterday, our security forces killed those who committed the killings.”
In a strong message of retribution and justice, Shah added, “Today, I will answer what happened in Pahalgam and how we have responded to the terrorists. All three killers have been eliminated.”
Details of the Joint Operation
Shah revealed that our answer to the attack was initiated on May 22, shortly after intelligence agencies received credible inputs on the terrorists’ whereabouts. “I was in Srinagar at 5:30 am that day. We held an emergency security review and instructed that no one responsible for the Pahalgam attack should be allowed to cross the border,” Shah said.
The security grid—Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police—moved swiftly, verifying intelligence and tracking the trio. The three were gunned down in a targeted encounter yesterday. “They were positively identified as the same terrorists involved in the Pahalgam killings,” Shah said.

Identity Verified, Proof Shared
In a detailed disclosure to the House, the Home Minister said that 1,055 people were questioned for over 3,000 hours, and two overground workers (OGWs) who provided logistical support and shelter to the attackers were detained early in the investigation. These OGWs later identified the bodies of the slain terrorists once they were brought to Srinagar.
“The bullets used by the terrorists during the Pahalgam attack have been matched by forensic labs with those recovered from the three killed yesterday,” Shah said, reinforcing the legitimacy of the action. He added that family members of victims had also positively identified the attackers.
Pakistan Involvement Confirmed
Addressing doubts raised by opposition leaders over the nationality of the attackers, Shah targeted former Home Minister P. Chidambaram, accusing him of indirectly giving a “clean chit” to Pakistan.
“Who are you protecting when you question whether they were Pakistani? The terrorists, the weapons, the route—everything traces back to Pakistan. You’re questioning the legitimacy of Operation Sindoor and providing political cover to the enemy,” Shah thundered.
The Home Minister further revealed that Pakistan responded to Operation Sindoor by shelling civilian areas across the LoC, damaging temples and gurdwaras, and injuring several civilians.
The session witnessed high drama as Amit Shah accused the Opposition of being visibly upset over the terrorists’ killing. “Don’t be upset just because of the religion of the terrorists,” he said, sparking uproar from the Opposition benches, which demanded an apology for the insinuation.
Shah, however, stood firm and said, “I pay my heartiest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. I pay my sympathies to those injured in the Pakistani firing that followed.”
“This is not just a message of vengeance,” Amit Shah concluded, “but a message of closure. Let this House and the country know that justice has been done. And justice under Modi-ji’s government doesn’t delay; it delivers.”
