Workers from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest at the ITO foot over bridge in Delhi on Friday against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal, who has not resigned from his post, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the excise policy case.
During the protest, party workers raised slogans like ‘Aam Aadmi Party Zindabad’ and ‘Arvind Kejriwal Zindabad’. They also carried posters with Kejriwal’s picture, captioned ‘jail ka jawab vote se’.
Earlier, on April 10, a Delhi court rejected Kejriwal’s plea to increase the number of legal meetings with his lawyers from two to five times a week. Kejriwal argued that he is facing multiple FIRs in various states, requiring more legal meetings. However, the court upheld the Jail Manual, which allows only one legal meeting per week, with exceptions for two meetings in special circumstances.
The court noted that Kejriwal is already receiving two legal meetings per week and that allowing more would be against the Jail Manual. The ED has alleged that the AAP is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged liquor scam.
