During the 92nd Indian Air Force (IAF) Day celebrations on Sunday at Chennai’s Marina Beach, four spectators tragically died, and 96 others were hospitalized due to severe heatstroke. The event took place between the Lighthouse and Chennai Port, attracting a large crowd under intense weather conditions.
The airshow was attended by many prominent figures, including Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, and Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin. Despite the unfortunate incident, the show featured an impressive display of 72 aircraft, including Rafale, SU-30, MIGs, Jaguars, and Tejas, marking an entry into the Limca Book of World Records.
With temperatures soaring, many spectators fell victim to heatstroke during the event. Emergency services were promptly dispatched, and the affected individuals were rushed to local hospitals. The incident has raised concerns over event safety during extreme weather conditions.
