At least 22 daily-wage labourers from Assam’s Tinsukia district are feared dead after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh, on Thursday. Rescue teams have so far recovered 13 bodies, while efforts continue to locate the remaining victims.

How the Anjaw Gorge Accident Occurred

Authorities reported that the vehicle was navigating steep hilly terrain when the driver reportedly lost control, causing it to tumble into the gorge. Local administration and disaster response teams immediately launched search-and-rescue operations. The difficult landscape has made the recovery work particularly challenging, but teams are working to retrieve bodies and find any survivors.

Rescue Operations Underway

Officials confirmed that a large-scale rescue effort is ongoing. Disaster response personnel are carefully maneuvering through the steep slopes to reach the accident site. The operation continues as authorities strive to recover the remaining victims and ensure no one is left unaccounted for.

Similar Tragedy in Nashik

This incident follows another fatal gorge accident in Maharashtra just days earlier. On December 7, six people died when a car fell nearly 600 feet into a gorge at Saptashring Garh Ghat in Nashik’s Kalwan taluka. The accident occurred around 4 pm, and all passengers, residents of Pimpalgaon Baswant in Niphad taluka, died instantly. The Toyota Innova they were travelling in was completely crushed. The deceased were identified as Kirti Patel (50), Raseela Patel (50), Vitthal Patel (65), Lata Patel (60), Vachan Patel (60), and Maniben Patel (70). Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil is overseeing the rescue operations in the Nashik case.
