15 Flights Diverted from Delhi Due to Weather: Sources

Airport sources reported that adverse weather conditions in the national capital led to the diversion of 15 flights from Delhi. Among these diversions, nine flights were redirected to Jaipur, two to Amritsar, two to Lucknow, one to Mumbai, and one to Chandigarh.

On Tuesday evening, various areas of Delhi witnessed unexpected rainfall, marking a sudden shift in the weather in the national capital. The short downpour provided relief to commuters who have been enduring the intense April heat.

Previously, the India Meteorological Department had forecasted that Delhi’s temperature would hover around 38 degrees Celsius for the next 2-3 days, with a chance of light rain on Monday.

According to Dr. Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at IMD, Eastern India may experience temperatures reaching up to 44 degrees Celsius in the next 4-5 days.

“In Delhi, our estimate is that the temperature is expected to remain around 38 degrees Celsius in the coming 2-3 days. After this, it may increase slowly by 1-2 degrees and with it, there is a possibility of light rain tomorrow…At present, if you talk about Eastern India, the temperature has reached 44 degrees Celsius in 1-2 stations. In the next 4-5 days, the temperature can reach 44 degrees Celsius in Eastern India, and in Northwest India, there is no hope of it being near 40 or more than 41 degrees Celsius ,” Kumar said.

Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at IMD, Delhi, mentioned that a heatwave is currently affecting East India, and it’s anticipated to persist in some states for the next 4-5 days.
