The External Affairs Ministry of India has reported that Indian students in the United States are being deported without any explanation. Over the past three years, the US has deported 48 Indian students without providing grounds for their return. This information was shared by Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, during a parliamentary session on Friday.

Recent trends show that Indian students frequently choose the US for their education. However, some have faced unexplained deportations. The issue was raised in the Lok Sabha by BK Parthasarathi, who inquired about the number of Indian students deported by the US in the past three years and the reasons behind these actions.

Parthasarathi also asked if the government had data on illegal migrants, particularly in the US, and what measures were being taken in response, according to Onmanorama and the official Ministry of External Affairs website.

In response, Kirti Vardhan Singh confirmed that 48 Indian students were deported in the past three years without official reasons from the US authorities. Possible reasons for deportation include “unauthorised employment, unapproved withdrawal from classes, expulsion and suspension, and failure to report Optional Practical Training (OPT) employments,” which can result in visa terminations.

Singh also noted that the Indian government is working to strengthen international relations to facilitate legal mobility and is addressing illegal migration while educating citizens about safe and legal migration practices.
