India recorded 774 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, as reported by the most recent update from the Union Health Ministry. Within the same period, two fatalities were documented, one in Gujarat and the other in Tamil Nadu. Consequently, the overall tally of coronavirus cases in India, since the pandemic’s emergence in January 2020, has now reached 4,50,17,431, with the recent addition of 774 cases in the past 24 hours. The death toll from COVID-19 in India has risen to 5,33,387, reflecting an increase of two deaths within the last 24 hours.

The total count of recovered COVID-19 cases in India has now reached 4,44,79,804, marking an uptick of 919 cases compared to the previous day. On January 5, 2024, a total of 34,660 tests were conducted, according to the official report by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

India has administered a cumulative total of 220,67,81,345 vaccinations since the onset of the virus. Official data from the Ministry of Health reveals that Southern India has reported the highest number of cases, with Karnataka recording 1169, Kerala 1160, Tamil Nadu 188, and Maharashtra 931 cases.

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has observed a pattern where an increase in COVID-19 cases in South India precedes a rise in North India. Despite this trend, he urged citizens not to panic but emphasized the importance of adhering to precautionary measures. Minister Bhardwaj underscored the rigorous testing and monitoring procedures in Delhi, stating, “All the positive cases coming in RTPCR test, we are sending those samples for genome sequencing. Currently, there is not a single positive case of the new variant in Delhi.”
