India Post Releases special postal cover in honour of Film Heritage Foundation

Indian Postal Department has released a special postal cover and cancellation stamp for remarkable work of Film Heritage Foundation on its 10th anniversary at a function.

Film Heritage Foundation, an organisation of Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, a native of Dungarpur in Southern Rajasthan, is touching new heights. The Indian Postal Department has released a special postal cover and cancellation stamp for the remarkable work of Film Heritage Foundation on its 10th anniversary at a function organised in the beautiful heritage building of General Post Office (GPO) in VT Mumbai. Many dignitaries including Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra Kishan Kumar Sharma and Postmaster General of Mumbai Amitabh Singh along with eminent poet, writer, lyricist and film producer Gulzar and famous director Shyam Benegal were present at this special function.

This special postal cover is an embossed cover on a foil, on which there is a stamp of Rs 5. It has an artistic depiction on it, in which Film Heritage Foundation Director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur and the conservators of Film Heritage Foundation are shown saving celluloid films in danger of being lost forever. This limited edition of the special cover will be available at the Philately Bureau of General Post Office (GPO) in Mumbai.

Film Heritage Foundation Director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur said that it is a matter of great honour for the Foundation. Chief Postmaster General of Maharashtra Circle Kishan Kumar Sharma and Postmaster General of Mumbai Amitabh Singh released this postal special cover and cancellation stamp in honour of the efforts being made by the Foundation to save, preserve, restore and showcase India’s rich and diverse film heritage. He said that ‘Since I was a child, I used to collect postage stamps. Also, I loved writing letters and going to the post office. This was taught to me by my maternal grandfather, who was an active letter-writer till the age of almost 90. Even today I write and post letters and visit post offices in every city and town.’
