In a diplomatic effort to address border issues, the 28th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) transpired on November 30, 2023. The Indian delegation, led by the Joint Secretary (East Asia) from the Ministry of External Affairs, engaged in discussions with the Chinese delegation, headed by the Director-General of Boundary & Oceanic Affairs from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The primary focus of the meeting involved a comprehensive review of the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector of the India-China border areas. Both sides actively participated in open, constructive, and in-depth discussions, proposing resolutions to address outstanding issues and achieve complete disengagement in Eastern Ladakh. A mutual agreement was reached on the critical importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border areas. Both delegations emphasized the need for a stable situation on the ground and the avoidance of any untoward incidents. The collaborative commitment to resolving issues was underscored by an agreement to continue the dialogue through military and diplomatic channels. Additionally, the announcement of the upcoming round of the Senior Commanders’ Meeting was made, emphasizing the urgency of achieving the shared objective of peace and stability along the India-China border.
