IIAD hosts virtual orientation programme
Indian Institute of Art and Design welcomed its new batch of students by hosting a virtual orientation programme. Students and their parents were introduced to the IIAD community and were made familiar with the resources and facilities at the institute, the rules and regulations, and the calendar of academic events. Sanjay Saxena, director (Worldwide IASP) IBM was the chief guest at the orientation event. In his keynote address he not only spoke about grappling with the post-Covid world but also the global opportunities of working and studying remotely. He also discussed how creative design was a huge multifaceted career opportunity and why it was so relevant and essential for the future. The virtual event was also attended by the faculty members and other staff of IIAD.
EDII & Savitribai Phule varsity offer entrepreneurship courses
Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad and Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Centre for Innovation, Incubation & Enterprise (SPPU’sCIIE), have joined hands to orient youth towards entrepreneurial career. To ensure this, the institutes will jointly design courses and programs in entrepreneurship development and execute them through joint certification. Under this collaboration, faculty development programmes will also be conducted to deep root entrepreneurship and to ensure that there is a trained cadre of mentors and resource persons who can design and implement entrepreneurship related interventions. In addition to offering courses on entrepreneurship, the joint initiative will support access of students from the University to EDII for handson training and industry experience.
Scindia School, Gwalior, inks MoU with New York Institute of Finance
The Scindia School, Gwalior and the New York Institute of Finance (NYIF), a professional training for financial services and related industries have entered into an agreement to annually allocate two full scholarships ‘G2020’ for high school students and ‘Young Finance Scholar Program’ to middle school students. In addition, NYIF will also deliver in-demand skill-based training, and organise relevant webinars for students and teachers. The program aims to train the next generation scholars and leaders globally. The G2020 and Young Finance Scholar programmes aim to nurture emerging and future change-makers globally to address, identify, and implement innovative solutions for business, financial, and sustainable development challenges.
Shahid Jameel is new director of Trivedi School of Biosciences
Ashoka University has announced the appointment of Dr Shahid Jameel as the director of the Trivedi School of Biosciences. The School was launched earlier in the year with an endowment of over Rs. 100 crore by Ashok Trivedi, founder and trustee, Ashoka University, and managing partner of SWAT Capital. Dr. Jameel comes to Ashoka University after spending over seven years as chief executive officer of the DBT/ Wellcome Trust India Alliance, a public charity that funds biomedical research. Before that, he was group leader of virology at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, New Delhi. The virologist has received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Medical Sciences, India’s highest mid-career research award. He is also a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India.
