In Rohat, near Pali, a 10-year-old boy suffered a fall while playing at school, resulting in a fractured hand. The family sought treatment from an unqualified local doctor who applied a makeshift cast. Ten days later, the child experienced difficulty breathing, and when taken to the hospital, it was too late – the child had succumbed to respiratory failure.
The father, Bhagaram Patel, narrated the sequence of events, stating that his son, Purushottam Rohat, attended the Children Public School. On December 15, Purushottam returned home complaining of pain.
Initially, he claimed to have fallen outside the house while playing. However, upon further inquiry, it was revealed that he fell at school. The family took him to the government hospital in Rohat, where an X-ray revealed a fracture in the left elbow. The family then opted for treatment from a local doctor in Salawas who applied a poorly secured cast.
According to Bhagaram Patel, after this treatment, Purushottam showed no signs of discomfort for the initial two days and even attended school. However, on the evening of December 25, he complained of difficulty breathing. Concerned about his deteriorating health, the family rushed him to the Bangad Hospital in Pali. During this period, the child had already passed away, and doctors at the hospital cited internal bleeding as the cause of death.
In this tragic incident, the hospital’s Deputy Superintendent, Dr. R.K. Vishnoi, emphasised the importance of seeking treatment at government hospitals. He urged people to refrain from consulting unqualified practitioners and stressed that medical examinations and treatments at government hospitals are provided free of cost.
In this case, it was observed that the child, upon falling, had sustained a fracture in the hand, and an internal injury to the abdomen occurred when he fell. The improper treatment from the unqualified doctor led to a gradual infection, resulting in the child’s demise.
Dr Vishnoi highlighted the need for public awareness regarding the dangers of seeking treatment from unlicensed practitioners and encouraged parents to choose government hospitals for the comprehensive and professional care of their children.
