A tragedy befell a master’s degree holder student from Hyderabad while searching for a job in Canada; he drowned to death in a lake here at Toronto. The young man, identified as Praneeth, who had come to Canada to celebrate his birthday with his brother and friends.
His elder brother had shifted to Canada this year. Praneeth, an MBA student from Meerpet in Ranga Reddy district, had been in the USA since 2019. On Saturday, they had gone to a cottage near Clear Lake as part of their vacation. While everybody else returned from the swim the next day, Praneeth was behind. “Rescue teams later recovered his body from the lake”, PTI reported. Praneeth videos of having fun in the lake with friends and shouting while on drive have gone viral. “The family learnt about the incident through friends on Monday itself. Now, Praneeth’s father has met both state and central governments to get help repatriate the body to India. In a related incident, Indian Embassy in Sweden and Latvia has been coordinating with Latvian authorities following the drowning of a student from Kerala in Riga.
The victim has been identified as Albin Shinto, who was swimming with friends in a canal. The Embassy said in X, “Embassy is in regular contact with Latvian authorities regarding the unfortunate incident of suspected drowning of an Indian student in Riga.” It further said, “We remain in touch with the family and will continue to extend all possible help.”
