Jaipur police have successfully apprehended the husband accused of murdering his wife after luring her from Nepal to India. The suspect, identified as Sandeep Mejar, also known as Vishal (28) from Dholakha, Nepal, confessed to the crime during police interrogation. He has been arrested and presented in court, subsequently remanded to jail.
According to Additional DCP Gurusharan Rao, Sandeep Mejar admitted to strangling his wife, Sangita Roka (26), with the drawstring of a jacket. The tragic incident sheds light on a history of abuse, with Sandeep allegedly subjecting Sangita to physical violence over dowry demands shortly after their wedding seven months ago.
Sandeep, who worked as a driver in Jaipur, frequently travelled between India and Nepal, leaving Sangita in Kathmandu. He reportedly pressured her for money and subjected her to abuse.
Sandeep called Sangita to India before Diwali, after which he arranged a job for her as a caretaker for children in Bapu Nagar, Jaipur. The strained relationship escalated on the night of December 13, leading to a fatal argument about dowry. In an intoxicated state, Sandeep allegedly assaulted Sangita, eventually strangling her with the jacket drawstring.
The accused sat near Sangita’s lifeless body for several hours before making a plan to mislead the police. Sandeep attempted to create diversions but eventually confessed to the murder during police interrogation.
Sangita’s sister, Geeta, alerted the police after discovering the suspicious circumstances of her sister’s death. The Vaishali Nagar police called in the FSL team to investigate, unravelling the details of the tragic incident.
