Tim Allen, the well-known Hollywood actor who portrayed Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story series, has announced that he will be in Toy Story 5. The 71-year-old actor, who just finished filming his first scene for the film, was excited to play the part again. Speaking to Collider, Allen described the fifth instalment as being a “clever story” that made the creatives want to make the film.
“It’s not just about the money,” Allen said. “If they hadn’t come up with a brilliant script, this wouldn’t be happening. They wouldn’t have called Tom or me. It’s really clever.”
Alongside Tom Hanks, who voices Sheriff Woody, Allen has been voicing Buzz Lightyear since the 1995 release of the first Toy Story, which won over viewers. A mainstay of animated storytelling, the series includes Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4, and the 2022 spin-off Lightyear.
Looking back at the experience, Allen said voicing Buzz was a blessing, and he was confident the next movie will be a success. “Even though we’re only getting started, it already looks like something unique. The plot is excellent, and I’m eager to see how it all works out. We’re probably a year or so away from finishing it,” he said.
Andrew Stanton, who is a key member of the franchise’s writing team and directed this most recent film, wrote Toy Story 5. The U.S. premiere of Toy Story 5, which is being produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Disney, is scheduled for June 19, 2026. Yet another warm and exciting journey through the iconic characters’ universe awaits all fans of Buzz, Woody, and company.
