Espresso, a hit song by Sabrina Carpenter, shocked the music industry by becoming viral early this year. In reference to the popular coffee beverage, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter acknowledged that she wasn’t sure how the song would be received by listeners. In an interview, Sabrina said, “I didn’t know if it would connect, but I believed in the song’s energy and the confidence it carried.” Despite not knowing what to think of her at first, Espresso soon gained popularity and even formed a partnership with Dunkin’, which led to the creation of the Sabrina’s Brown Sugar Shakin’ Espresso coffee drink.
East Coast child, Sabrina said about her relationship with Dunkin’, “Dunkin’ was my childhood,” and it’s a great time for a coffee collaboration. This is not a product collaboration for her; this is an attempt to make meaningful connection with the fans when she can’t reach out to them on tour. “People really appreciate connection more now because it’s such a rarity,” she explained.
When Espresso dropped in April, Sabrina had no idea how fast it would explode. Fans created espresso martinis, memes, and viral videos inspired by the track, which even inspired a sketch on Saturday Night Live with 15 million views on YouTube. Sabrina thought of putting out the song in the fall as she wasn’t sure if there was a summer place for a song about coffee.
Besides Espresso, Sabrina also gifted fans her Netflix Christmas special, A Nonsense Christmas. Inspired by icons such as Cher, Dolly Parton, and Lucille Ball, it was a dream project for Sabrina. She wanted to convey her whimsical, fun attitude, and working with her guests made it truly unique. According to Sabrina, “it was a really fun and collaborative process,” with many of the guest appearances developing naturally.
As 2024 draws to a close, Sabrina is already planning her upcoming endeavours. Even though her international Short n’ Sweet tour is coming to an end, she is already planning her next album. Her statement, “I’m always thinking one year ahead,” hinted at more light-hearted, light-hearted music to come.
