Hollywood star Jason Momoa will play Lobo, one of DC Comics’ most notorious anti-heroes. He believes he was born for this role. Known for his intense screen presence, Momoa feels he naturally embodies Lobo’s wild and rebellious spirit.
Confident in the Role
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Momoa expressed his excitement. “I just think I’m the right person to play the role,” he said. His Minecraft co-star Jack Black agreed, adding, “Born to do it.” Momoa echoed the statement, fully embracing the casting.
He explained why he fits Lobo so well. “Motorcycles, smoking cigars, partying, dreadlocks… loves a fight, funny,” he listed. He welcomed the typecasting, saying, “If we’re going to typecast me in anything, let’s put me in Lobo.”
Lobo Joins Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Momoa will make his debut as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The film stars House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock as Supergirl. It follows interstellar warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll as she seeks revenge for her father’s murder. She enlists Supergirl’s help to track down the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hill, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye.
Fully Committed to the Character
Right now, Momoa is filming his scenes. He calls Lobo “the most bada** bounty hunter in the galaxy,” matching DC Comics’ description. To fully immerse himself, he even asked everyone on set to call him by his character’s name.
In a fun moment with Jack Black, Momoa slipped into Lobo’s deep, rough voice and joked, “Lobo has to go take a deuce.”
A Dream Role Finally Realized
Momoa has wanted this role for years. In a 2023 interview with Fandango, he shared his love for the character. “I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” he said. Back then, he hadn’t been approached for it. But he was ready. “If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f**k yeah,” he said.
Release Date Announced
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow hits theaters on July 26, 2026. Fans will finally see Momoa bring Lobo to life.
