In the recent monsoon session of the Himachal Assembly, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu responded assertively to Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur’s concerns over the prevailing unemployment crisis, pledging the creation of 500,000 jobs within the next five years. He committed to initiating this ambition with the employment of 10,000 individuals this year alone.
This promise came amidst a heated discussion where Sukhu critically noted the alleged corruption rampant in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) during the tenure of the former BJP government. Sukhu accused the previous administration of turning a blind eye as SSC paper leaks proliferated, with papers reportedly being sold for amounts ranging between 1 lakh to 5 lakh rupees. Detailing the ongoing investigation, the CM mentioned that 65 individuals have been arrested, while another 26 remain under scrutiny. Sukhu declared his administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption, stating that results not affected by the leaks will be declared shortly, reassuring students anxious over the delays. Opposition leader Thakur countered by highlighting the Congress government’s failure to fulfil their job creation pledge since coming to power.
