Tea is a favorite beverage in Indian homes, from social meetings to everyday lives, tea is a soothing part of many lives. While everyone swears by how it cures headaches and brings relaxation, excessive consumption of the same can silently cause damage to the body. Nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary, in a viral Instagram video, describes how excessive consumption of tea can create a chain of ailments. She points out the stealth dangers of tea and suggests it should be restricted to only one daily cup.
Tea Steals Nutrients from Your Body
Rashi starts with the fact that tea consists of tannins, these substances hinder iron intake. Most Indians already have a deficiency of iron, and drinking tea all day will exacerbate this condition, the outcome? Weakened body, constant fatigue, and long-term nutrient deficiencies.
Digestion and Sleep Get Affected
As per Rashi, the caffeine in tea may provide you with a temporary lift, but it does more harm than good. It flushes stomach acid, causes bloating, and leads to acidity. In the long run, it interferes with digestion and even impacts sleep patterns, leaving you exhausted but not rested.
It’s Essentially Dessert in Disguise
Most others have tea with milk and sugar, making it a stealth dessert. It may appear to be a light drink, but it contains sugars and calories you’re unknowingly taking in, often several times a day.
A Warning for Kidney Stone Sufferers
Tea contains a lot of oxalates too. Rashi cautions that in large amounts; it causes excruciating kidney stones. For people with a tendency to develop stones, this is a cause for concern that should not be taken lightly.
Gut Health and Hormonal Imbalance
Rashi describes in detail how caffeine raises stomach acid and cortisol. If your gut lining is already irritated, this will lead to nausea, bloating, or jitters. Adding milk only makes it worse. Milk has casein, which is difficult to digest and produces acidic byproducts. This causes reflux and impacts hormonal balance by stimulating IGF-1, a hormone that is associated with diseases such as PCOS, acne, and slow digestion.
One Cup a Day Is the Way
Rashi concludes that all fans of tea should limit themselves to a single cup a day. Overindulgence may seem harmless, but the body will sooner or later give out. From acidity to weariness, your body will appreciate cutting back.
