Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has approved the allotment of Gram Sabha land for the establishment of two Ayushman Arogya Mandir health centres and a gaushala in different parts of Delhi, officials at Lok Niwas said on Friday.
According to officials, Gram Sabha land measuring 28 bighas and 5 biswa in Sungarpur village in North Delhi has been allotted for a period of 99 years for setting up a gaushala.
Biswa is a traditional unit of land measurement commonly used in rural and agricultural areas across several north Indian states.
The land has been allotted to the Animal Husbandry Unit of the Delhi government’s Development Department, which will develop the gaushala at the site.
Officials said the decision would strengthen the Delhi government’s August 2025 initiative to establish at least one gaushala and one dog shelter in every district of the national capital.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, officials added.
Sandhu has also approved the allotment of Gram Sabha land for setting up Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at Mangeshpur in Outer North Delhi and Fatehpur Beri in South Delhi at a token fee of Re 1, officials said.
Officials noted that the expansion of Arogya Mandirs has been facing a serious challenge due to the shortage of suitable land.
With the latest approvals, the number of Gram Sabha land allotments for Arogya Mandirs has risen to 14. These include three locations in North Delhi, nine in South-West Delhi, and one location each in South-East and South Delhi, officials said.
