In Khanpur Kala, Sonipat, there has been a long-standing issue of poor roads leading to the Women’s Medical College, causing significant difficulties for patients. In response to this serious problem, the Health Minister of the state, Anil Vij, has taken a proactive step by writing a written request to Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. This is because the responsibility for the Public Works Department (PWD) lies with Dushyant Chautala.

The Director of BPS Government Medical College for Women, Khanpur Kala, Jagdish Chandra Dureja, had previously written a letter to the Director of Medical College and Research Haryana, bringing attention to this matter. Upon the Health Minister’s awareness of the issue, Anil Vij took it seriously and expedited efforts to address the problem.

It is worth noting that the condition of the roads connecting Gohana to Khanpur Kala via Gamri, NH 71 from Khalana Khas to Khanpur Kala, and other routes has been severely deteriorated. This has made it extremely challenging for patients to reach the medical college.
The Minister emphasized that the situation becomes even more dire during the monsoon, posing a threat to the lives of seriously ill patients due to the lack of proper road connectivity to the medical college.

In a letter exchange, it was revealed that a promise was made during a meeting held on November 2, 2011, under the leadership of the then Chief Minister to improve road connectivity for the Medical College. However, despite the agreement in that meeting, the current state of these roads is deplorable. Surrounding districts, including Panipat, Sonipat, Jind, refer critically injured and sick patients to Khanpur Kala Medical College. Many patients are in a critical condition, leading to unfortunate incidents due to delays in reaching the hospital and receiving timely treatment.

Health Minister Anil Vij, in his correspondence, not only urged for the provision of proper road connectivity but also requested the widening of narrow roads.

It should be noted that Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women is a public women’s medical college. It is the first government women’s medical college in independent India, established in 1914 in Delhi after Lady Hardinge Medical College. The college was inaugurated on International Women’s Day in 2013 during the tenure of the previous Congress government. However, the facilities that were supposed to be provided were not delivered. Millions were spent on buildings, but the infrastructure was not utilized effectively. Currently, the credibility of the institution is being questioned, as positions are vacant, and inadequate facilities deter many patients from seeking medical attention. The shops around the area appear vacant.

The present Health Minister of the state, Anil Vij, has taken notice of the situation, and Director Jagdish Chandra Dureja is making efforts to address the issues. Health Minister Anil Vij has instructed the director to envision the women’s medical college at par with PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research). Vij emphasized that he will provide as many facilities as required and directed the preparation of proposals for the same. In a crucial meeting with Director Jagdish Chandra Dureja, Anil Vij has given several directives to improve the conditions.

The Health Minister has set a goal to make Haryana tuberculosis-free by 2025. Vij responded promptly to a public plea made by a legislator to improve the condition of a tuberculosis hospital, announcing the establishment of a tuberculosis institute with all necessary facilities under one roof, benefiting surrounding states. He assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Haryana government, healthcare professionals, and staff would strive to make the “Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” successful in the state by 2025, aiming to eliminate tuberculosis patients, currently estimated at around 63,000.

Additionally, Anil Vij is taking measures to build new hospitals and healthcare infrastructure as needed. He highlighted the completion of a 700-bed multi-national hospital in Gurugram and the replacement of 162 dilapidated PCHs with new ones. The minister stressed the importance of creating a positive environment and providing top-notch facilities for doctors to deliver quality healthcare services. Vij believes that just as funds are allocated for cancer hospitals, a similar approach should be adopted for all healthcare facilities. He has successfully implemented several projects, ensuring that healthcare in the state is upgraded and expanded to meet the needs of the people.
