The ongoing political and religious conflict regarding Surya Namaskar in the state has become never-ending. Rajasthan High Court has rejected the petition of a Muslim organisation regarding the ban on Surya Namaskar. Now, Surya Namaskar will be conducted in all government and non-government schools on Thursday, to create a world record on this day.

The court decisively dismissed the petition contesting the practice of Surya Namaskar, emphasising that the Muslim Forum lacked the necessary registration, a prerequisite for filing petitions in the High Court. The court underscored the importance of organisational legitimacy, stating that only registered entities or individuals possess the standing to bring forth legal challenges.

Concurrently, in response to the petition submitted by AIMIM, the court scheduled a hearing for the 20th of February.

Surya Namaskar is not a religious activity: Education Minister

Addressing the High Court’s inquiry into the petition, Education Minister Madan Dilawar staunchly asserted that Surya Namaskar transcends religious categorisation, categorically stating it as a non-religious activity.

He pointed out that numerous countries worldwide have embraced this practice, exemplified by the global observance of Yoga Day on the 21st of June. According to Dilawar, Surya Namaskar represents a comprehensive form of yoga, encompassing various facets of the discipline.

In defence of the Education Department’s directive, the minister declared that the prescribed orders would be universally binding across all schools. He underscored the mandatory nature of the directive, stipulating that every student entering the educational institutions under its jurisdiction would be obligated to participate in the practice of Surya Namaskar.

Dilawar’s position reflects a commitment to the holistic benefits of this yogic activity, aligning with its global recognition and acceptance beyond religious boundaries.
