As the pristine landscapes of Gulmarg prepare to host the exhilarating 4th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games from February 21, excitement mounts with the anticipation of around 800 athletes and officials from 20 States and Union Territories gracing the event. Notably, cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has conveyed his heartfelt best wishes to the organizers, adding a touch of star power to the proceedings.

Against the backdrop of snow-clad mountains, athletes will converge to compete in a diverse array of winter sporting events, including Snowboarding, Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, and Snow Mountaineering. With participants from 20 states and Union Territories contending in Alpine Ski, Nordic Ski, and Snowboarding, complemented by ten states in the Ski Mountaineering category, the stage is set for a display of athleticism and camaraderie.
Organized collaboratively by the Department of Youth Services & Sports, the J&K Sports Council, and other key stakeholders such as the Tourism Department and Gulmarg Development Authority, the event will kick off with the unveiling of the event’s mascot, resonating with the ethos of unity and sportsmanship celebrated across the nation through the Khelo India initiative.

The selection of the Snow Leopard as the official mascot, a decision made by the J&K Sports Council, not only highlights the region’s ecological diversity but also underscores the significance of conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding the natural habitat of this majestic species for future generations.

With meticulous planning, logistical arrangements including accommodation and transportation have been meticulously orchestrated by the organizers, ensuring a seamless and unforgettable experience for all participants and officials.

Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, has been at the helm of a series of meetings with representatives from various departments, overseeing the meticulous arrangements. Meanwhile, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, has been actively engaged in finalizing on-ground logistics.

During his recent visit to Kashmir, cricketing maestro Sachin Tendulkar extended his best wishes to the J&K Sports Council for successfully orchestrating the sporting extravaganza. In a message brimming with encouragement, Tendulkar advised participating athletes to imbibe the spirit of the games and cherish the moments during their stay.The grandeur of the inaugural and closing ceremonies promises to captivate audiences with vibrant cultural performances by local artists, showcasing the rich heritage of the region. A special cultural evening slated for February 20 is poised to enchant participants, officials, tourists, and locals alike, setting the stage for an unforgettable event.
