Stranger Things: After a decade of monsters, mysteries and midnight bike rides, Stranger Things has finally reached its end. The final chapter of season five aired on New Year’s Eve, bringing closure to the story of Hawkins and its battle with the Upside Down.

Vecna is defeated, Eleven steps into a future of her own choosing and the remaining friends move forward with lives shaped by everything they survived it felt like a farewell, but not a full goodbye. The Duffer Brothers have made it clear that while this chapter is closed, the world they built is far from finished.

Stranger Things: End of an Era

When Stranger Things debuted in 2016, few could have predicted its cultural impact as a nostalgic sci-fi experiment became one of Netflix’s most defining series. Ending it after ten years was a deliberate choice.

The creators wanted to finish the Hawkins story cleanly, answering questions about the Upside Down rather than stretching the narrative thin. Season five was designed as a conclusion, not a pause.

Why Stranger Things Isn’t Really Over Despite the Final Season

Even before the finale aired, Netflix and the Duffer Brothers confirmed plans to expand the franchise. The show had already moved beyond television into novels, stage productions and immersive experiences.

Spin-offs were the next natural step and rather than revisiting the same plot, the creators aim to explore new corners of the universe while protecting the emotional ending of the original series.

How Many Stranger Things Spin-Offs Are Coming

At least two spin-offs are currently in development one is an animated series, while the other is a live-action project. The animated show is the closest to release and is expected to arrive in 2026. Both projects are being developed closely with Netflix, keeping the Duffers creatively involved to ensure continuity and tone.

Inside the Animated Series Set in 1985

The animated spin-off, titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is set during the winter between seasons two and three. It revisits familiar characters like Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max, but through animation and a new voice cast.

The story focuses on fresh threats, new creatures and another mystery linked to the Upside Down. A teaser has already been released, though the premiere date remains under wraps.

What to Expect From the Live-Action Spin-Off

The live-action spin-off will move away from Hawkins entirely. According to the Duffer Brothers, it will feature new characters, a new setting and a standalone story. While it connects loosely to the Stranger Things universe, it is meant to function as its own series. This approach allows the franchise to grow without undoing the emotional finality of the original show.
