Los Angeles [US], August 24 (ANI): Singer and actor Jessica Simpson has confirmed that Netflix is producing a documentary about her life, career and influence, with the project set to premiere in 2027, according to E! News.
Simpson announced the documentary on Instagram, sharing a picture of herself sitting alongside a camera crew. “It’s time to open a new chapter,” she wrote, tagging Netflix and adding, “2027.”
According to Netflix’s Tudum, the documentary will explore Simpson’s journey in the public eye and her return to music after a long hiatus. The project will be directed by Joe Pearlman, according to E! News.
“After a 15-year hiatus from original music, Jessica returned to recording and performing with her two 2025 Nashville Canyon EPs,” Tudum said in a statement. “Now, she’s invited the cameras back in to tell all in a new documentary.”
The statement added, “Stay tuned for more updates on the documentary ahead of its 2027 premiere.”
Simpson previously opened her life to television audiences through the reality series ‘Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica’, which aired around 20 years ago and documented her marriage to Nick Lachey.
Since then, she has sold more than 20 million records worldwide, launched The Jessica Simpson Collection and published her bestselling memoir ‘Open Book’.
The documentary comes after Simpson’s return to music following a lengthy break. She recently spoke about how moving to Nashville helped her navigate a difficult period in her life.
“I do love Nashville,” Simpson said during a December 2025 show in Connecticut. “It brought me home to myself and inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life.”
“I just kind of had to surrender myself to my intuition and the light that was in front of me,” she added. “I had to focus on that. My whole music career, I had a job: to be a pop star. And I tried that”
“When you’re younger, you just never feel good enough. And it’s OK to not feel good enough,” she said.
Simpson, 46, also recalled facing professional setbacks after changing her musical direction. Her former label Sony Nashville dropped her months after the release of her 2008 country album ‘Do You Know’, a decision she said left her “mad at music” at the time.
Reflecting on her return to music, Simpson said, “I want everyone to have grace for themselves, but I’m very good at convincing myself that my purpose is bigger than the moment.”
“It felt like over the last 15 years of not singing, I’d left these breadcrumbs to walk myself back to the throne where I belong. It’s my chair, my crown, and I reclaimed that,” she added, according to E! News. (ANI)
