Bollywood veteran Suniel Shetty has landed in controversy once again following a recent interview where he made comments about parenting roles within marriage. He suggested that after the birth of a child, the wife should take primary responsibility for childcare while the husband focuses on his career. This follows a previous controversy where his remarks on the “comfort of C-section” drew criticism online.
Suniel’s Perspective on Marriage and Parenthood
In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Shetty shared his thoughts on modern marriage dynamics. He said, “Aaj kal bachon mein patience hai hi nahi. Shaadi kuch time ke baad ek samjhauta hota hai, where you have to understand each other, live for each other.”
He described marriage as an evolving relationship that eventually requires compromise and mutual understanding.
He then shifted focus to parenting, emphasizing how he believes roles should adjust once a child enters the picture. He stated, “Phir ek bacha aata hai, aur patni ko yeh jaan na zaruri hai ki husband career banayega toh bache ko main dekh rahi hoon. Husband, of course, saath mein dekhega. Par aaj kal sab cheezon mein pressure bohot ho gaya hai.”
Shetty acknowledged that while fathers are involved, the wife should understand and primarily manage childcare if the husband is pursuing his career. He also mentioned the overwhelming advice available online, noting that today’s digital world constantly influences parenting choices and lifestyle decisions.
Online Users Slam Actor’s Gendered Outlook
Shetty’s remarks quickly spread across social media platforms, especially Reddit, where several users criticized what they saw as outdated, patriarchal views. One user wrote bluntly, “He needs to stop talking.” Another responded sarcastically, “I think he should try C-section in interviews since the delivery of his statements normally go wrong.”
The backlash didn’t stop there. A user commented in Hindi, “Bhai apni image khud hee kharab kar raha h” (He is ruining his own image), and questioned the silence of his PR team. Another added, “After natural birth warrior story he is back with a male chauvinism anecdote! Seriously he should just stop talking.”
Some even compared his attitude with that of his son-in-law, cricketer KL Rahul, suggesting Shetty should take cues from him in terms of public conduct.
What’s Next for Suniel Shetty?
Despite the backlash, Suniel Shetty remains active in the entertainment industry. He is set to appear in the upcoming season of Hunter Tootega Nahi Todega, an action-thriller series. However, his recent comments have sparked renewed debate about gender roles, modern parenting, and how public figures should navigate sensitive topics in interviews.
