Noted film trade analyst Komal Nahta has lauded Saiyaara, calling it one of the finest Bollywood romantic films in recent memory. In an interview with ANI, Nahta praised both the film’s emotional impact and box office performance, comparing its massive popularity to Hrithik Roshan’s 2000 blockbuster debut Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.
He said, “In the last 20–25 years, I have not seen a similar kind of craze as it is for Saiyaara. The last time we witnessed this type of euphoria was when Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai released.”
From Modest Expectations to ₹404 Crore Blockbuster
Directed by Mohit Suri and produced under Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara stars newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Despite initial projections as a semi-hit, the film has stunned both viewers and experts by crossing ₹404 crore at the global box office. According to Nahta, what began as a promising debut exploded into a cultural phenomenon.
The Formula Behind the Frenzy
Nahta attributed the film’s unexpected success to a well-crafted marketing strategy that started with the first teaser. “The first teaser swept the youngsters off their feet. The hero and heroine looked so wonderful and compatible,” he remarked.
The buzz continued to grow with every new song release. Each track was described as a “musical delight” with visually stunning picturisation. Nahta noted that the audience had already made up their minds to watch the film even before the trailer dropped, which only sealed their decision.
Expectations Surpassed on the Big Screen
Nahta explained that Saiyaara not only lived up to but exceeded public expectations. He emphasized that the combination of fresh faces, chemistry between the leads, compelling storytelling, and exceptional music gave the film its extraordinary edge.
He said, “Expectations had reached sky-high… it’s not easy to live up to those, but this film did. It surpassed them.”
A Wave of Emotions in Theatres
The emotional reaction to Saiyaara has also contributed to its success. Videos of audiences crying or dancing in theatres have gone viral online. While some media outlets speculated that these reactions were staged, Nahta dismissed such claims.
“Everything is organic,” he insisted. “All you need to do is go to the cinema hall and see for yourself. I cried during six or seven scenes myself.”
Breaking Records and Setting New Benchmarks
Yash Raj Films recently announced that Saiyaara has overtaken Kabir Singh to become the highest-grossing Hindi romantic film. With ₹404 crore in earnings, the film has proven that fresh talent and genuine storytelling can still draw massive audiences. Nahta’s final message to skeptics? Don’t rely on AI to judge a film’s success just go watch it in the theatres.
