The seasoned actor proclaimed it his earlier responsibility to help the families. Speaking to the media, the National Award winner said all citizens must take up tasks like this: “It is our responsibility to help when such accidents take place in the country. They are our brothers and sisters. It is a shared responsibility for all. We haven’t done anything in favor of any one of them. One has to do this.”

Nana lauded co-thespian Johnny Lever for his charity work and said that hardly anyone from the Hindi cinema community does not seek publicity in times of such tragic national events. “Our people from the film industry also do a lot of work for poor people but never raise their hands. Johnny Lever is one among them. If we don’t, then who?” Nana Patekar averred.

He continued, “The government did a lot, but do not be dependent on them; do something yourself also. I am satisfied when I become the reason for someone’s happiness.”

Rehab initiative sponsored by the Indian Army

The actor was said to be joined by the other trustees of the foundation when they visited Rajouri Garrison on the morning of September 22 to see for themselves the distribution of the rehabilitation packages.

The rehabilitation process is being undertaken with the active support of the Indian Army and civil administration, both of whom have been working day and night for the welfare of individuals residing on the border.

Nirmala Gajanan Foundation, an organization formed to honor the names of Nana Patekar’s parents, Nirmala and Gajanan, has worked diligently in education and healthcare activities all over India.
