A film based on one of the most heartbreaking true-crime stories of the year is now in the works. Honeymoon in Shillong will chronicle the tragic and deeply disturbing murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a young businessman from Indore, who was allegedly killed by his wife during what was meant to be their honeymoon in the scenic hills of Meghalaya.
A Romantic Trip Turned Tragic
Sonam Raghuvanshi was the recent wife of 29-year-old Raja. Like any newlyweds, they traveled to Meghalaya, a region renowned for its serene beauty and waterfalls, for their honeymoon. Tragically, however, what should have been the start of a lifetime journey came to an end.
On May 23, while trekking in Cherrapunji, Raja suddenly went missing. His family, worried and desperate, waited for any news. Ten days later, his decomposed body was discovered at the bottom of a gorge near the picturesque Wei Sawdong Falls. A machete was found near the site. What initially appeared to be an accident soon revealed darker truths.

Raja vanished on May 23 while walking in Cherrapunji. Desperate and anxious, his family awaited any updates. His decaying body was found ten days later at the base of a ravine close to the scenic Wei Sawdong Falls. A knife was discovered close to the location. Darker realities eventually surfaced from what at first seemed to be an accident.
A Murder Unfolds
After an intense investigation, Raja’s wife, Sonam, was arrested. Authorities believe she plotted the murder with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three others. The murder was allegedly prearranged, with several unsuccessful attempts made in the days before Raja’s death, according to shocking information that surfaced.
Police were able to follow the group’s methods for leading Raja to the location and carrying out the attack in a crime reenactment. The post-mortem confirmed brutal head injuries, likely caused by the sharp blade.
A Brother’s Promise
Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, has been fighting for justice since that day. He visited the crime scene, performed rituals in memory of his brother, and has been vocal in demanding a CBI investigation. He’s also opposed bail for the accused and remains committed to keeping his brother’s story alive.
When the filmmakers approached the family about turning the case into a movie, Vipin gave his consent but only on the condition that the story be told with sensitivity, truth, and dignity. This isn’t just a movie,” he said. It’s about making sure Raja’s life and what happened to him is not forgotten.
