Amazon MGM Studios now has creative control over the James Bond series. Longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have stepped back. As a result, Amazon can now decide the franchise’s future, including casting the next Bond. However, fans are deeply concerned.
Fans Express Concerns Over the Future of Bond
As soon as the news broke, fans reacted with shock. Many fear Amazon might mishandle the franchise. One fan declared, “It’s over. RIP Bond. 1962-2025.” Another blamed Broccoli’s exit for the possible downfall, saying, “Broccoli was the one protecting it from becoming streaming slop. Cooked!”
Moreover, some believe the franchise will lose its identity. Referencing Bond’s fate in No Time to Die, one fan remarked, “Turns out Bond really and truly died in the last film.”
Amazon’s Track Record Worries Fans
In addition, fans pointed out Amazon’s history with big franchises. Many referenced their Lord of the Rings prequel series, which received mixed reviews. One fan sarcastically commented, “Yay after marauding Tolkien it’s time for another … one Brit at a time Jeff, one Brit at a time.”
Furthermore, others worry Amazon might oversaturate the market. One user imagined endless spin-offs: “Now Bond movie, Bond prequel before his license to kill TV series, M spin-off, Moneypenny spin-off, Blofeld series origins.”
Some Fans See a Silver Lining
On the other hand, a few fans remain optimistic. One supporter believes a fresh approach could help. “If it recenters the plot around gadgets, cars, luxury real estate, and action scenes, why not?”
Additionally, some debates centered on diversity. While some opposed the idea of a Black Bond, one commenter pushed back: “White men have played big roles for decades. Maybe Bond can take a cue from Doctor Who and learn.”
How Amazon Took Control of Bond
Under the new deal, Amazon MGM Studios now shares James Bond rights with the Broccoli-Wilson family. However, Amazon holds the final creative say.
Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed gratitude for Bond’s legacy. He stated, “We are honored to continue this treasured heritage and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world.”
The Legacy of James Bond
Created by Ian Fleming in 1953, James Bond has been a cultural icon for decades. The first film, Dr. No, debuted in 1962. Since then, the series has earned $7.8 billion worldwide.
Over the years, seven actors have played Bond. Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig all left a lasting impact. However, since Craig exited the role in 2023, the search for the next Bond continues.
