Actor Ranbir Kapoor’s recent comments about the necessity of changing one’s personality after marriage have sparked a significant backlash on social media. Speaking on the podcast People by WTF with Nikhil Kamath, Ranbir mentioned that both he and his wife, actor Alia Bhatt, have made such changes.
Ranbir Kapoor stated, “Especially when you’re in a marriage, you have to let go of your personality. She’s also letting go of her personality. We’re adjusting to each other, trying to make it livable for each other. Any marriage is doing that. You have to let go, you have to adjust, you have to sacrifice facets of it. Because it’s impossible for two people to like each other the way they are.”
The actor’s remarks did not sit well with many on social media platforms. Users expressed their discontent and concerns about the idea of changing one’s personality for a relationship.
One person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “This sounds so wrong. Letting go of one’s personality is not at all possible. You cannot be with someone who doesn’t allow you to be yourself. Adjustment and acceptance go hand in hand.”

Others pointed out the apparent change in Alia Bhatt’s demeanor since her relationship with Ranbir began. “Alia was so bubbly and fun when Ranbir was not in her life! She was real and a breath of fresh air. Then he came, and it was almost as if Alia had to tone down her fun side and act all mature. Your man shouldn’t have to change you but should accept you for who you are!” tweeted another user.
