Sanjeev Sharma, an Indian engineer at Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has gained widespread attention on social media due to his impressive educational and career journey. His path started with a degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), after which he began his professional career at Indian Railways. Sharma rose through the ranks, starting as a Divisional Mechanical Engineer and eventually becoming the Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, contributing over 11 years to the Railways.

Driven by the desire for further growth, Sharma pursued a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder, completing his degree in 2003. He then joined Seagate Technology, where he advanced from Staff Mechanical Engineer to Senior Mechanical Engineer by 2008. During his five years with Seagate, he also earned an MS in Management of Technology from the University of Minnesota.

In his next chapter, Sharma joined SpaceX as a Dynamics Engineer, where he played a key role in leading structural dynamics initiatives. His work involved collaborating with teams in various domains like aerodynamics, propulsion, and thermal engineering. He contributed significantly to the development of SpaceX’s reusable rocket technology, specifically the recovery of the Falcon 9 first-stage booster, helping to revolutionize spaceflight reusability from flights F9-005 to F9-059.

In 2018, Sharma briefly left SpaceX to join Matternet Inc., where he spearheaded vehicle engineering and later led the technology division in commercial drone delivery systems. However, his passion for space exploration led him back to SpaceX in 2022, where he now serves as Principal Engineer for Starship Dynamics, focusing on the ambitious Starship program.

A screenshot of Sharma’s profile and accomplishments was shared on X, with a user commenting, “From Indian Railways to SpaceX, From Building Trains to Building Starships & Catching Them.”

Sharma’s career, distinguished by his academic and professional achievements, has made him a source of inspiration and intrigue on social media.
