In Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, a landslide on the Kedarnath highway has claimed five lives. The incident occurred on Monday evening, affecting a 150-meter stretch of the highway between Sonprayag and Munkatiya.

On Tuesday morning, rescue teams recovered the bodies of four additional pilgrims, bringing the total death toll to five. The deceased have been identified as Gopal, 50, Durgabai Khapar, 50, and Samanbai, 50, all from Madhya Pradesh, as well as Titli Devi, 70, from Nepal. Injured individuals include Jeevach Tiwari, 60, from Nepal; Manpreet Singh, 30, from West Bengal; and Chhagan Lal, 45, from Madhya Pradesh, who are currently receiving medical treatment.

The continuous fall of boulders and heavy rainfall have hampered rescue efforts. Rescue operations were paused for safety reasons on Monday evening but resumed around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and assured that rescuers were promptly sent to the site. The injured were quickly transported to Sonprayag for treatment.
