King Charles has announced plans to welcome a new canine companion into the palace after the death of Queen Camilla’s beloved Jack Russell, Beth.

The King was overheard saying that during a conversation with TV hosts Alan Carr and Amanda Holden at the Royal Variety Performance. “I felt for her, I really felt for her when that happened. He said ‘we’re going to get a new one, Merry Christmas,'” according to the Daily Mail.

Beth’s Last Days

Beth was a 13-year-old rescue from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. It was diagnosed with an incurable tumor just days before her health started rapidly deteriorating, and the Queen was heartbroken over the loss- she decided to put Beth to sleep.

Adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in South London in 2011, Beth had not had it easy with a painful skin condition that saw her found in a park. In 2012, another Jack Russell, Bluebell, was welcomed into the family.

The Royal Family reported Beth’s passing via social media, stating: “A sad farewell to Beth, The Queen’s much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.”

Battersea CEO Honors Beth

Peter Laurie, chief executive of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, said: “We are very sad to hear that Beth, HM The Queen’s rescue dog, has sadly passed away. Our thoughts are with Their Majesties at this time. We know how difficult it can be to lose a loved one, and Beth was very special indeed.”

Charitable Ornaments in Honour of Beth

To mark Beth, a Christmas ornament for Highgrove, the King’s Gloucestershire home is to be released with an image of Beth on it. The ornaments are covered in sequins and gold thread and show Beth in a crown top red bandana. They sell online and in the estate shop at £12.95 along with designs of Bluebell, the Queen’s remaining Jack Russell.

Queen Camilla’s Bond with Beth

Queen Camilla was deeply in love with Beth. The dog even appeared on her coronation gown with goldwork enhancement. Beth also attended many royal events, one of which was a loyalty duel with Paul O’Grady and his dog Sausage in 2022 for the show For The Love Of Dogs.

Beth’s longevity within the royal family spread happiness to all, and her memory will continue to live on within those tributes.
