Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed strong optimism about the BJP-led coalition government’s return to power after the 2024 Assembly elections. Speaking at an event organized by a Marathi TV channel in Mumbai, Fadnavis conveyed his gratitude for the invitation and confidently stated that they could be invited for the same event in December next year, as the government would continue to be in power.
Fadnavis urged the audience to also invite Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, emphasizing the collective leadership of the coalition. The Lok Sabha elections are slated for April-May, followed by the Assembly elections in October-November next year.
The BJP has initiated a statewide campaign to showcase the policies and programs implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the national level and leaders like Eknath Shinde, Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar at the state level.
Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the State BJP chief, expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, attributing their success to their commitment to the welfare of the people.
He highlighted the focus on empowering the poor and oppressed under Modi’s leadership and the collaborative efforts in Maharashtra to provide benefits to all citizens.
Despite emerging as the largest party in 2019, the BJP faced opposition after its alliance partner Shiv Sena joined forces with the NCP and Congress, forming the Maha Vikas Aghadi government led by Uddhav Thackeray.
Following a split in the Shiv Sena, the BJP formed a coalition government in Maharashtra in 2022, with Shinde as the Chief Minister. In July of the following year, the BJP split the NCP, and the Ajit Pawar-led faction joined the government.
With 106 BJP MLAs, 40 from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), 41 from the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, and 10 independents, the coalition holds 197 ruling legislators in the 288-member Assembly. The Congress has 44 MLAs, Shiv Sena (UBT) has 16, and the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) has 13.
