Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay launched his political journey with a rousing rally in Vikravandi, Villupuram on Sunday, drawing an enthusiastic crowd. Marking TVK’s first political event, Vijay addressed his supporters with a message of Tamil pride, unity, and reform. “I may be new to politics, but I am not afraid of it,” he stated, highlighting his commitment to change for Tamil Nadu’s people. Vijay expressed admiration for Tamil icons like MG Ramachandran and NT Rama Rao, citing their lasting legacies and overcoming public skepticism in politics.

A significant focus of his speech was on Tamil identity and self-respect, advocating policies rooted in Tamil nationalism blended with social justice principles of leaders like EVR Periyar and BR Ambedkar. Vijay made a strong stance against the NEET exam, criticising it as discriminatory, promising to work for educational reforms and autonomy that would benefit the state. “We are here to represent every Tamil, free of divisions based on caste, language, or region,” he added, emphasizing an inclusive vision for TVK.

The rally also featured a symbolic display of the TVK flag and an introduction to the party’s ideology, dubbed “kolgai pragadanam,” which Vijay plans to release formally. His speech outlined the initial steps for the 2026 state assembly elections, revealing that the party’s roadmap would focus on empowerment, state autonomy, and equitable distribution of resources from the central government.
