Russia: St Petersburg Airport Halts Flights After Drone Threats Over Gulf Of Finland

Russia’s Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg suspended all flight arrivals and departures on Saturday morning to ensure the safety of air traffic. The decision, made by Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, came at 7:45 a.m. local time (0445 GMT), though no specific reason was given. However, such actions are not uncommon when there are concerns about potential drone strikes, particularly from Ukrainian forces.

Leningrad region Governor Alexander Drozdenko said Russian forces had managed to intercept two drones near Luga Bay in the Gulf of Finland, further indicating the higher threat level.

Rosaviatsia announced over Telegram that it was temporarily halting flights in the airport to ensure safety, adding that every precaution was being taken by aircrews, air traffic controllers, and other services of the airport. In this regard, it underlined that the most important thing now was the security of flights.
