Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal Wins Vote Of Confidence

Within 18 months of taking office, the prime minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ won the vote of confidence in parliament. Which was the fourth, he faced on Monday.

Overall, in the 275-member House of Representatives, around 158 lawmakers participated in voting.

Meanwhile, the opposition party Nepali Congress did not take part in the process altogether and instead, shouted slogans against Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, accusing him of cooperative funds misappropriation.

Thus, leading to session’s delay. However, one HOR member remained neutral.

Later, speaker Dev Raj Ghimire eventually announced, Prachanda has successfully cleared Floor Test, as he acquired majority in the parliament.

This vote coincides with a time, when one of coalition partners, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) earlier withdrew its support for government.

Thus, leaving the government with a deficit of 138 votes, which were needed to win trust vote.

Moreover, this is the fourth time, that Prachanda has initiated vote of confidence since he was assumed prime ministership in 2022.

Earlier on March 13, Prime minister Dahal managed to win third vote of confidence.

Just last year, Prachanda dealt with a floor test after the former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli-led CPN-UML withdrew support due to backing the main opposition party’s candidate for the presidential poll.
