A search operation is underway for four US Army soldiers who vanished during a training exercise in Lithuania, the US embassy in Vilnius announced on Wednesday.
The soldiers went missing in a specially demarcated training area close to the town of Pabrade in eastern Lithuania near the border with Belarus, the embassy said. The exact timing of when they vanished has not been reported.
“The troops, who were all part of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, were undertaking routine tactical training when the incident occurred,” the embassy announced on social media platform X. “Search and rescue operations are under way.”
Lithuania’s military confirmed they were informed on Tuesday of missing soldiers and a missing tracked vehicle. Officials later determined a possible location and mounted a coordinated search effort with the Lithuanian military, police, and American forces.
Attempts to find the soldiers continue, with no other information available as of now.
