Tehran: Iran has officially announced that the next round of indirect talks with the United States over its nuclear program will be held on Saturday, April 19, in Muscat, Oman. The update was shared by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, as reported by the state-run IRNA news agency.
“Following last weekend’s negotiations, the two sides are set to resume discussions in Muscat this Saturday,” said Baqaei.
The announcement comes after a previous round of indirect talks was also held in Oman, indicating the Gulf nation’s growing role as a neutral venue for sensitive diplomatic discussions.
Conflicting Locations Clarified
Earlier reports had hinted at a possible change in location, with the Dutch foreign minister suggesting Rome as the site for the next meeting. However, Iran has now confirmed that Muscat will host the continuation of talks.
Focus: Nuclear Program Negotiations
The talks are part of a renewed diplomatic effort to address concerns surrounding Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. While no immediate breakthroughs have been reported, both sides appear willing to continue dialogue.
The discussions come amid ongoing international pressure to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), which was abandoned by the US in 2018.
Outlook: Hope for Progress
Though progress has been slow, the continuation of these talks signals a commitment from both Iran and the US to keep channels of communication open. Muscat’s role as host also highlights Oman’s importance as a diplomatic bridge in the Middle East.
Stay tuned for updates on the outcome of the April 19 meeting.
