Finland’s President Pushes Easter Ceasefire, Says Trump’s Patience With Russia Fading

Finland’s President Alexander Stubb has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to give a clear April 20 deadline for the establishment of a complete ceasefire in Ukraine, arguing that a specific timeline is necessary to make progress.

Addressing Finnish journalists in London on Sunday, Stubb clarified, “April 20 would be a good moment for an unconditional full ceasefire. A deadline is needed because it falls on Easter and is three months since President Trump came to power.”

His comments came after an impromptu trip to Florida on Saturday, during which he sat down with Trump to talk about deepening bilateral relations. The two leaders also had a round of golf, Stubb’s office said.

Since taking office in January, Trump has focused on ending what he describes as a “ridiculous” war in Ukraine. His administration recently facilitated agreements between Ukraine and Russia to halt strikes in the Black Sea and on energy infrastructure.

Stubb reported that Trump’s patience with Russia was thinning and that the U.S. had “far-reaching” measures if Moscow was not willing to sign a ceasefire agreement. Trump solidified this position on Sunday by warning of imposing secondary tariffs ranging from 25% to 50% on Russian oil if he thought Russia was stalling peace efforts.

As tensions rise and diplomatic pressure mounts, Stubb’s initiative emphasizes the increasing sense of urgency to put an end to the war as Western leaders demand tangible action to stabilize the area.
