Singers Karan Aujla and Yo Yo Honey Singh are facing legal trouble after the Punjab State Women’s Commission took suo motu action over the language used in their latest songs. The commission claims the lyrics promote objectification of women and harm societal values. Chairperson Raj Lali Gill confirmed that the panel received complaints and reviewed public reactions before writing to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) for immediate action. Both artists have now been summoned.
Commission Questions Lyrics and Double Standards
Gill criticised the singers for what she called double standards. She pointed out that while artists publicly express respect for women, especially mothers, their songs allegedly contain abusive and derogatory language. She questioned whether the goal was to get millions of views or to earn money at the cost of negatively influencing children. Gill stressed that singers must take responsibility not only to entertain but also to safeguard values.

Demand for Apology and Change in Lyrics
The commission has asked the DGP and Bureau of Investigation (BOI) to summon both singers and demand an apology. Gill acknowledged that the artists may be outside the country but insisted they should be contacted and asked for an explanation. She said that if they apologise and agree to change the lyrics, the panel will decide the next steps.

Karan Aujla’s song MF Gabhru from his album P-Pop Culture has been labelled misogynistic despite its popularity. Honey Singh’s track Millionaire from his comeback album Glory, released in August 2024, has also faced criticism for allegedly objectionable language towards women.
