A victim of the unfortunate stampede in Karur has approached the Madras High Court, praying for a direction to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) concerning the suspension of permissions for rallies or public meetings conducted by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and presided over by actor turned politician Vijay.
This petition pushes for a full-scale inquiry into this incident that happened on September 27, exacting a death toll that is at least 40 with more than 60 others in patient conditions. An FIR has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which includes Sections 105 and 106 dealing with culpable homicide and death by negligence while no reports of stone pelting have been noted, TVK leadership has been blamed by the authorities for failing to comply with safety regulations.
