Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 2 (ANI): The 460th anniversary festival of the Holy Sengol Matha shrine was celebrated in a grand manner at Sudukattanpatti in Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram, with a large number of devotees participating in the festivities.

The celebrations began with the flag-hoisting ceremony following the consecration of the renovated temple on July 31.

The event was led by the Bishop of Sivagangai Diocese, L Lourdu Anandam.

The highlight of the festival was the grand chariot procession held on Saturday night. Three specially decorated and illuminated chariots were taken out as part of the celebration, attracting a large gathering of devotees.

The first chariot featured Saint Michael the Archangel, the second featured Saint Ignatius, and the third featured Saint Sengol Matha. The procession moved through the area amid celebrations and the participation of devotees.

The annual festival of the Holy Sengol Mata Temple is a major event in Rameswaram and draws people from Olaikuda, Sangummal, Sudukattanpatti, Olaikudda and surrounding areas.

The 460th anniversary celebrations concluded with devotees taking part in the traditional festival activities, marking another year of the temple’s long-standing annual observance in the region. (ANI)
