On day 2, the film crossed the ₹200 crores mark at the global box office. The movie was released on 14th August, clashing with War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR and Kiara Advani.

Collie Becomes Rajinikanth’s Best Opening Film
The success of Coolie has added another feather to the cap of the celebrated actor Rajinikanth. The Lokesh Kanagaraj film has become his biggest opener of his 50-year-long run as the leading man in movies.
In terms of domestic box office collection, Coolie sits just ₹26 crore shy of surpassing the lifetime collection of his 2024 release Vettaiyan (₹146.89 crore). The movie has already crossed the opening day numbers for Vijay’s Leo (₹148.5 crore).
Coolie Outshines The Multistarrer War 2
Despite clashing with the multistarrer action thriller War 2, directed by Ayan Mukherji Coolie managed to stand strong and cement its place as the bigger release. Promoted on the star power of Rajiniknath against multiple pan-India stars like Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR and Kiara Advani, Coolie has managed to shine at the box office. Fans have been heading to theatres to witness the legendary actor still perform at the age of 74.
Comparing the numbers of the two releases, on their opening day, the YRF spy universe film collected a total of ₹52 crores against Coolie’s ₹65 crore opening.
On the second day, however, War 2 showed a jump in collection by earning an estimated ₹56.50 crore. On the other hand, Coolie’s domestic box office number fell to ₹53 crore on its second day in theatres. As of now, the Rajinikanth film is ahead by a margin of ₹10 crores.
The weekend collection of both films is something to keep an eye on. Which film will take the lead in its first weekend at the theatres is a question people are looking forward to. Will War 2 take the lead, or will the Rajinikanth fandom take Coolie to greater heights? Only time will tell.
