Avengers Doomsday is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team, the Avengers. Produced by Marvel Studios and AGBO and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it will be the fifth film of the Avengers film series, following Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. It stars an ensemble cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.
In it, the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and X-Men unite against Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.
Avengers Doomsday is set to be released in the United States on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six in the MCU. Its sequel, Secret Wars, is scheduled for a release date of December 17, 2027.

Marvel Breaks 14 Year Tradition With Early Trailer Release
While Marvel Studios is certainly leaning into some of its previously successful elements, it’s also charting new territory with the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. When it releases this coming December 2025, it will officially bring an end to a 14-year tradition within the MCU.
This marks the first time an Avengers movie will drop a trailer a full year before its release. Avengers: Doomsday is primed to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, giving it one of the longest promotional windows of any Avengers film to date.
In comparison, each of the first trailers for Age of Ultron, Infinity War, and Endgame were released less than 200 days prior to their theatrical premieres. The Doomsday teaser will arrive at approximately 365 days in advance.
It’s expected to arrive in theaters ahead of the next MCU film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, releasing on July 31, 2026. That will make it so the first look at the Phase 6 finale comes even before the next Spider-Man movie drops its own trailer-a first-of-its-kind move that highlights just how anxious Marvel is to launch the Doctor Doom era with maximum impact.
