In a significant development, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) apprehended a 32-year-old engineer in Nashik on Wednesday, accusing him of providing financial support to the Islamic State (ISIS).
The arrested individual, who operates an import-export business in Nashik, approximately 200 km from Mumbai, allegedly transferred funds to the global terrorist group on three separate occasions, according to ATS investigations.
Authorities are currently scrutinizing associates linked to the accused across multiple states, though specific details were not disclosed, stated an official source.
Last month, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) made headlines by arresting eight individuals connected to ISIS during raids conducted in various locations across Maharashtra.
During raids in November, the NIA seized a substantial amount of unaccounted cash, firearms, sharp weapons, incriminating documents outlining potential targets, smartphones, and other digital devices. These efforts are part of a nationwide initiative by probe agencies to disrupt and thwart ISIS attempts to carry out acts of terror in the country. Preceding the November raids, the NIA had previously arrested over 15 ISIS operatives following multiple searches in Maharashtra and Karnataka. The ongoing operations reflect the government’s commitment to counter-terrorism measures and ensure national security.
