Have you ever heard of a duck swimming at bullet-like speed? Believe it or not, it’s true! Our world is filled with a diverse range of animals and creatures, some familiar and some quite extraordinary. Thanks to social media, we now have unprecedented access to amazing and surprising facts about these creatures.

Ducks are typically known for their graceful movement across ponds and lakes, but one viral video shows a duck moving at a speed that seems almost supernatural. In the footage, a person releases a Merganser duck into the water, and it vanishes almost instantly, propelling through the water at a velocity comparable to a bullet fired from a gun. This remarkable speed has left many viewers astonished.

The video, shared on X by the account @wonder_of_science, is captioned, “The speed of a Merganser running on water.” Posted on July 27, it has garnered around 190,000 views, 1,900 likes, and 276 reposts. Commenters have shared their amazement, with one noting, “Accelerating faster than any gasoline car,” and another pointing out that the fastest recorded duck, a male red-breasted merganser, reached an airspeed of 100 mph while being chased by an airplane, surpassing the previous record of 72 mph held by a canvasback. A user humorously added, “Catch me if you can.”
