Diwali Date 2024: Astrologer Clarifies Confusion Between October 31 and November 1

As the festival of Navratri begins, excitement for Diwali is growing across the country. Traditionally celebrated on the night of Amavasya, Diwali this year has generated confusion regarding its date. Renowned astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal from Devghar explained that Deepavali is observed every year on the Amavasya of the Kartik month. This year, Amavasya falls on both October 31 and November 1.

Devotees eagerly await Diwali, during which they worship Lord Kubera and Goddess Lakshmi, lighting lamps, candles, and diyas to celebrate Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. It is believed that worshiping Maa Lakshmi on Diwali night invites prosperity and abundance into homes.

In a conversation with the Local18 team, Pandit Mudgal clarified the date confusion, stating that while Amavasya technically extends into November 1, Diwali will be celebrated on October 31. He explained that Amavasya Tithi begins at 3:12 PM on October 31 and ends at 5:14 PM on November 1, with the Pratipada Tithi starting afterward. Therefore, the celebration will take place on October 31, particularly during the Pradosh Kaal (evening) and into the late night.
